Organically Grown Produce

The backbone of Earthrise Farm is our organically grown produce.  We believe in sustainable farming practices that keep our garden microscopically alive resulting in beautiful and bountiful herbs and produce each year.  Our herb garden features a wide variety of perennials and annuals and the space is used in many of our children’s programs as a sensory exploration area.

Earthrise is currently in a transitional phase, as far as the soil is concerned.  While the garden spaces and large grain fields of the Fernholz family farm have always been organic, the soil at Earthrise Farm is being transitioned back to it’s original state.  We are practicing no-till farming in our produce garden according to a modified “Natural Farming” technique as described by Masanobu Fukuoka in The One Straw Revolution.  We are also planting and harvesting small grains without machinery.

The produce of Earthrise Farm is available at the farm; contact us for more information on what is in season.  Keeping with the spirit of radical hospitality, we do not to set prices for our produce in order to make wholesome fresh food available to as many people as possible.  “Pay what you can and think is fair” is the idea here, whether payment is in the form of work, resources or money.  Hopefully the idea of a service like this will sustain itself and its participants.  We also offer value-added products utilizing produce from our gardens including pickles, sauces, salsas, sauerkraut, jams and jellies.  Money from value-added products goes to support farm operations.
